Support-A-Scholar.
More than a decade ago, the concept for Support-A-Scholar was born. The idea was simple – to create a Village of supporters who understood the value of the transformative work we lead to commit to support one or more years of a Scholar’s Breakthrough journey. This is how we collectively open doors of opportunity. There is a bond of positivity, shared values, and breakalicious spirit that connects our Breakthrough Village. Together we create space and community where young people thrive and grow, learn and lead, where anything and everything is possible. This work lifts all of us up. We invite you to join us and Support-A-Scholar this year.
Your investment of $5,000 funds one year of a Scholar’s transformative journey—and the return is priceless. Here's what that investment makes possible for each Scholar each year:
- 43 bus rides to summer and Saturday programming
- 1 dedicated Success Coach
- 10 one-on-one advising sessions
- 210 hours of out-of-school direct academic instruction
- 3 immersive field experiences
- 2 inspiring Site Directors
- A cadre of passionate Summer Teaching Fellows and student volunteers
- 10 parent workshops
- Year-round access to on-demand mental health services
- Countless “spirit checks”, motivating near-peer mentors, and lifelong friends
- 1 transformational Scholar's journey to catch their dreams.
*BTU Scholars also benefit from a 4-day college tour, a 14-day college bootcamp with dedicated advising, essay writing, test prep, and a mentor match.

Your generous contribution to our Support-A-Scholar Fund makes our tuition-free program possible, advancing our mission as an Opportunity Generator. The cost of one full year of transformative Breakthrough programming for one Scholar is approximately $5,000, which includes expenses such as transportation, meals, supplies, Teaching Fellow and Success Coaches leading instruction, mentorship, and advising, and the leadership of our outstanding educators on staff. Each year, hundreds of supporters invest to support our incoming class of more than 260 rising 5th graders as they embark on their 8-year Scholar journey. Join us in making breakthroughs possible!
