About MCCP Swish Out Childhood Cancer

Make a Real Difference… Virtually

Due to continued health and safety protocols, this year’s 28th Annual CU Swish-Out Childhood Cancer Challenge is virtual. This year’s event will be a 3-on-3 'virtual' foul shot competition with coed teams of 3 competing. Beginning April 10th, each participant will attempt 50 free throws (per week as long as the team remains in the competition) and the combined total of all 3 participants will be submitted by each Sunday at 5 p.m. The 25% of teams with the lowest overall total will be eliminated each week (percentage based on final number of teams participating). There is no competition the week of April vacation (April 18th-23rd).

The top teams in all divisions each week receive gift cards ($10 VC for each player in both adult and youth teams). Every participant receives a free t-shirt, and every team is entered into a raffle for 20 Sea Dogs tickets.

All teams remaining in the final week – week of May 9th will compete in the finals. Winning first place adult team receives $100 GC (all 3 players); second place adult team receives $50 GC (all 3 players); Youth first place – High School $50 GC (all 3 players); 7th & 8th Grade $25 GC (all 3 players) and 5th & 6th Grade $15 GC (all 3 players).

Each team will have their own page to raise additional funds and will be granted access to the MCCP incentive store to reward them for their fundraising efforts.

    About Maine Children's Cancer Program

Maine Children's Cancer Program (MCCP), the pediatric oncology program of The Barbara Bush Children's Hospital at Maine Medical Center, is committed to providing comprehensive care to children with cancer and blood disorders in Maine and parts of New Hampshire. Our team of pediatric oncology/hematology physicians, specialized nurses, social workers, research associates, a child life specialist, and a dedicated pediatric oncology clinical pharmacy specialist work together to provide care that incorporates three integrated components: state-of-the-art medical treatment, psycho-social support services, and clinical research. With approximately 50 new oncology diagnoses each year, 200 of whom are on active treatment at any time, along with about 150 children being followed for a variety of blood disorders, MCCP fills a great need in our state, providing excellent care in a closer-to-home setting.
