Tour de Triangle Founder Story

The Tour de Triangle (TdT) ride was founded in 2016, with the inaugural ride in 2017, through a partnership between the SAS’ Health Business Unit, UHCCF and UHG with the goal of supporting UHCCF’s mission to help support children during their time of medical need. SAS employees had been taking part in the MN Century Ride for a number of years and were inspired by the work the UHCCF was doing and how the community rallied around and participated in support of UHCCF’s cause. SAS’ expertise in data analytics and innate drive to leverage data to inform improved health care outcomes, coupled with its focus on employee health and healthy living, led them to establish the Tour de Triangle as a way for their employees and corporate partners to come together in support of UHCCF.  The Cary-Raleigh-Durham area – also known as the Research Triangle – provides a beautiful scenic backdrop for this cycling event. Not to mention the amazing Southern cuisine and music that greets the riders immediately following the ride; providing a perfect end to this day of friendship, fitness and purpose.

Why We Ride

Kin – age 9

Kin was born with a rare and complex health condition called Cloacal exstrophy (OEIS Syndrome). It is comprised of combination of defects resulting in a need for AFO’s, forearm crutches and consistent catheterization. While this condition presents many challenges, Kin doesn’t let it stop him from doing all the activities he loves. A grant from UHCCF has provided his family with the resources to cover the costs for specialist visits and procedures that he needs to stay healthy. For Kin that means the freedom to run around with his friend and participate in his favorite hobby, karate.
