People are often forced to cash in their retirement funds and use up their savings to make ends meet during treatment. At times, the costs can be so devastating that some patients will decide against having life-saving therapy as they simply cannot afford the out-of-pocket expenses. The Patient Financial Assistance Programs provides financial relief to patients undergoing treatment in Alberta. Examples of financial support can include rent or mortgage, groceries, out of pocket medications not covered by insurance like anti-nausea medication, utilities, and accommodation for those traveling out of their home town or city for long-term treatment like bone marrow transplant.
Last year, the Patient Financial Assistance Program was accessed more than 6,000 times by almost 1,000 families across Alberta. Your generosity will impact your fellow Albertans and ease their cancer journey during what is often an overwhelming time. You will be giving them hope and the help they need.
We are living in an unprecedented time. Despite the COVID-19 pandemic, our commitment to creating more moments for Albertans facing cancer is unwavering and now more than ever, patients across the province still need your support throughout their cancer journey.
Albertans helping Albertans. Thank you for making a difference.
