Rhode Island Gravel Ride for Cancer Research

Tour de Rhody is a bicycle ride supporting the Tour de Rhody Cancer Research Fund at the Brown University Health Cancer Institute.

Beginning in 2025, marked and organized loops will be gravel only. Thanks to support from the Providence Water Supply Board, we have special gravel access to otherwise closed 'roads'. Like years past, a virtual ride is still an option.

Event History

As a Hematologist/Oncologist in the Brown University Health Cancer Institute, I witness first-hand what our clinical trials can do for patients. I've seen the advances from recent clinical trials change how I can treat patients every single day.

I also ride my bike to work every day, rain or shine (maybe not in ice). Bringing Tour de Rhody to fruition for its first year in 2019 combined two of my passions: oncology research and bike riding. For our first year, nearly 100 riders joined to ride bikes, get a little lost, and raise over $18,000 for cancer research. Aside from some minor hiccups, I felt the event was a great success. 2020 faced new challenges. With careful COVID precautions, 200 riders showed up, wore masks, and stayed separated to raise over $50,000. Each year, it has been bigger and better. For 2025, we are changing locations, shifting to a more gravel ride focus, and have a larger dedicated team to make it the best year yet. I'm incredibly proud of this event and what we have created. I'm grateful to everyone who has come out to ride and support us as we pedal forward in the fight against cancer.
