Held simultaneously at Annandale Golf Club, Reunion Golf & Country Club and The Country Club of Jackson every Fall, the tournament is one of the largest in Mississippi and attracts players from all over the region. Options include five-man teams or four-man teams (paired with a professional golfer) for a shamble format with prizes awarded to top-placing teams.
The proceeds from the Friends of Children's Hospital Golf Tournament directly benefit the Child Life Program at Children's of Mississippi. This program enables the hospital to meet the psychological, emotional, and developmental needs of children and their families. The program also provides therapeutic play, preparation for procedures and education that reduces fear, anxiety, pain and suffering for patients and their families.
Funds from the tournament benefit the Child Life program at Children’s of Mississippi. Trained Child Life therapists on inpatient floors and in the Surgery and Imaging Centers in the Kathy and Joe Sanderson Tower help patients understand what to expect during treatment and help them cope with the challenges of illness and hospitalization.
Child Life Specialists have many responsibilities, which include assisting with pediatric imagining an overseeing the process that determines patients' anesthesia needs. By using kid-friendly language and creating a positive first impression, Child Life Specialists have significantly reduced anesthesia requirements for children, resulting in more children receiving MRIs quicker and more easily.
