Founder Story

Velo and Vines was founded in 2015 by Jennifer & Nathan Roberts of Three Rivers Provider Network (TRPN) and Arnot Roberts winery. Jennifer's passion for children's charities and Nathan's passion for cycling brought them to UHCCF's Minnesota Century Ride nearly ten years ago. The experience was so profound that they were inspired to host an event at their winery in Healdsburg, CA and bring their charitable experience full circle.

How Your Support Makes a Difference

Tyce – Age 9, Stansbury Park, UT

Last summer, on a long road trip and out of the blue, Tyce’s life changed. That was when his mom and dad discovered that he had Type 1 diabetes. Tyce was quickly admitted to the hospital and the whole family was immersed in a new world. At the time they did not know how they were going to afford the medicine, doctor visits, and all the other medical supplies. In addition, Tyce, like most children, had a fear of needles and so the constant shots and pokes that come with this illness were almost unbearable. As the family continued to navigate this new normal, Tyce’s anxiety around the consistent monitoring of his sugars grew. In fact, on the top of his Christmas list last year was an insulin pump and CGM. Enter in UHCCF which has enabled Tyce to move to an insulin pump instead. This means that he no longer must endure the needles or the anxiety that came with it. Now he loves being able to check his sugar levels any time of the day without having to poke his finger and feels empowered to reach all his goals. He can also spend more time with his siblings jumping on the trampoline and riding his bike around the neighborhood.
