Let's walk on the Wild Side!
Join us on June 14th, 2025 at the Oregon Zoo and support Portland Backpack with a Walk on the Wild Side.
Grab your best costume and gather your friends, family, neighbors, and co-workers for a walk through the incredible ambiance of the Oregon Zoo while learning about food insecurity, food access, and how we can all help make sure the kids we see every day, eat every day!
Thanks to our Presenting Sponsor, Hampton Lumber, all proceeds from this charity walk will go directly to support feeding 1330+ elementary school children at risk of hunger in 15 local Title 1 elementary schools.
We'll have snacks, drinks, t-shirts, a care card station, and a scavenger hunt with prizes!

Countless studies have shown that stress and worry caused by food insecurity limits a child’s ability to learn, impacts their health and can cause behavioral issues for them at school and within their families. Portland Backpack has a simple solution: put food directly into kids’ hands.
Our mission is to serve children who are at risk of hunger by providing food sacks for weekend days when food scarcity is higher. We believe that engaging the community in our efforts creates a greater impact that reaches beyond reducing hunger.
