At Flat Rock River YMCA Camp, we are committed to being a place where all kids are INCLUDED and ENGAGED, becoming CONFIDENT and INSPIRED!

One of our favorite stories from this past summer involved a young boy who sat at the top of our Wet Willie water slide and just couldn’t bring himself to let go. After 35 minutes of encouragement from his counselor, his cabinmates and a cabin of teenage girls waiting on the stairway for their turn, he finally made the trip down the slide into the lake. A huge smile appeared as he swam to the dock and heard the cheers that rang out from everyone who had been watching from below.

The whole scenario was so touching. When we approached the teen girls to see if they wanted us to ask this young man to step aside for a minute so they could go on through, they said “Oh no, we’re just here for moral support right now.” We are proud of the way they made sure he felt included, how they chose to engage in encouraging him and to see the boost in his confidence as a result.

It is our desire that this environment we strive to create at Flat Rock inspires our campers to take these values home and make a positive difference in their world outside of camp!
