Women Swimmin' for Hospicare is a community event that raises money for Hospicare & Palliative Care Services.

Growing up on the Great Lakes in Michigan, I have always had an affinity for the water. Family trips to Lake Huron meant that I had to be water-safe. Learn-to-swim lessons eventually turned into swim practices and meets. From my very first swim meet thirteen years ago through the day I committed to swim at Cornell University, my Grammie and my Pa were there to cheer me on every step of the way. This past year, both of my beloved grandparents were in hospice to ease their suffering in their final days. It meant so much to myself and my family that they were able to pass away in comfort with their loved ones by their side. In their memory, I will be raising money for hospice while swimming across Cayuga Lake.

The fundraising for this event benefits Women Swimmin' for Hospicare, an organization located in Ithaca, New York. Women Swimmin' provides compassionate end-of-life care, among many other resources.

SWIMMING & GOING THE DISTANCE raises funds that help Hospicare to:

- Provide vital medications to ease pain and manage symptoms

- Provide specialized medical equipment so patients can stay in their own homes

- Train more volunteers to deliver complementary therapies to enhance comfort and peace

- Offer grief counseling sessions

- Continue to provide intensive round-the-clock care at the Hospicare residence for patients who need more care than they can receive in their own homes.

If you can, please join me in supporting their work by making a donation on my fundraising page; you’ll find a link below. I hope you'll consider making a gift.

Wishing you good health and happiness,
