What is the Eagle Valley Trail?

The Eagle Valley Trail (EVT) stretches from the top of Vail Pass to Glenwood Canyon. It is a paved recreation path that will traverse Eagle County for a total of 62.7 miles once completed, connecting to paved trails in neighboring counties for an incredible 140+ miles of off-highway riding from Breckenridge all the way to Aspen. Numerous spur trails branch off from the EVT, providing easy access to Gypsum, Eagle Ranch, Beaver Creek, Avon, Minturn and other parts of our community.

Why Are We Raising Money for the Eagle Valley Trail?

Eagle County has only 10.3 more miles of the Eagle Valley Trail left to build so no one ever has to ride or walk on a highway again.

After securing nearly 70% of the $38 million needed to complete the trail, we need your help. It’s time to step up to the starting line and finish raising $3 million through the Race to Raise. The Virtual Cycle Challenge will enable us all to edge closer to the finish line, completing construction of the Eagle Valley Trail by the end of 2024.

Why Are We Having the Race to Raise: Virtual Cycle Challenge?

With snow still piled up in Eagle County, we thought it would be fun to have a virtual race with friendly competition to see which team could raise the most money to complete the EVT and “win the race.”

While it’s a virtual race, your donations contribute toward the very real safety and security of everyone in Eagle County and 100% of donations go to the cost of completing the construction of the final miles of the Eagle Valley Trail.

How Does the Race To Raise Support the Eagle Valley Trail?

With almost 70% of the funds needed to complete the trail secured, we have enough money to finish all but one section this summer. The last section – the longest and most difficult – stretches 7.5 miles from Edwards through Wolcott to Horn Ranch and will cost approximately $26 million. Our goal is to have that section completed by the end of 2024, and it will only happen through your generous donations.

What Have the Funds Raised to Date Done for the Eagle Valley Trail?

The overall goal is $38 Million to include:

Dotsero to Gypsum Duck Ponds: 1.7 miles, approximately $2.6 million (completed 2023)
EagleVail to Dowd Junction: 1.5 miles, approximately $7.9 million (under construction)
Minturn Connection: 1.3 miles, approximately $1.5 million (pending Forest Service approval. Hoping to complete summer 2023)
Horn Ranch to Edwards: 7.5 miles approximately $26 million (summer/fall 2024)

The Eagle County Commissioners have secured funds to cover $22 million (which is the maximum amount allowable through Certificates of Participation), $13 million is being sought from government grants and other funding, and the remaining $3 million needs to be raised through donations from the community, including individuals like you and granting foundations.
