Meet AAGL Award Winning Mentors - John F. Steege Mentorship Endowment

In 2015, The Foundation of the AAGL (FAAGL) and CooperSurgical established the John F. Steege Mentorship Endowment in honor of John F. Steege, MD. This endowment recognizes Dr. Steege’s legacy of dedicated mentoring of gynecologic surgeons of the future and is a Lifetime Endowment.

The prestigious John F. Steege Mentorship Award recognizes exceptional mentors in minimally invasive gynecologic surgery.  It was first presented to John F. Steege in 2015, followed by Ted L. Anderson in 2016, Michael C. Pitter in 2017 (posthumous), Charles E. Miller in 2018, Javier F. Magrina in 2019 and Keith B. Isaacson in 2020.  In 2021, the FAAGL will select another recipient.

This year, the FAAGL Board of Directors created a “Honor Your Mentor” campaign. This campaign will serve as a fundraiser for the FAAGL and provide special recognition to mentors of all levels of renown. This website will track the number of nominations (through donations) that each mentor receives. The top mentors, with the most nominations, will be featured in the carousel to the right, included in many FAAGL promotions, and submitted (if eligible) as a nominee for the 2021 John F. Steege Mentorship Award*.

The FAAGL Board of Directors would like to thank our donors for your participation in this campaign. But, more importantly, we want to thank and acknowledge the mentors impacting and changing the lives of others! Our sincere thanks goes out to all of you!

*The FAAGL will continue to request nominations for the 2021 John F. Steege Mentorship Award outside of this campaign.

HONOR YOUR MENTOR THROUGH A DONATION TO THE FAAGL!

Often, we search for ways to pay tribute to colleagues, family, or friends who have made a meaningful impact in our lives. A tribute gift, one made in honor or in memory of someone, is a thoughtful way to say thank you.

Recognize your mentor by nominating them as an Honored Mentor through a donation to the FAAGL! You may also give to honor a non-physician mentor - a professor, parent, colleague, or anyone who has helped you become the person you are today.

To make the “top” mentors shine, we have identified FOUR levels of recognition for our Honored Mentors.

Level 1: Honored Mentors – all mentors nominated through this campaign.
Level 2: Honored Mentors with tribute donations totaling $500 or more AND five or more nominations
Level 3: The Honored Mentor listed as #1 on the "Top Mentor Leader Board"
Level 4: Top Honored Mentor - the five Honored Mentors receiving the highest number of nominations

Donating in honor of your mentor will show your gratitude while simultaneously advancing the FAAGL’s mission of empowering progress in MIGS through education, research, technology, and global outreach with the goal of improving women’s health.

Visit "How It Works" to learn how to nominate your mentor!

Thank you for your donations and more importantly, for recognizing these people who are making a difference!
