Sports & Recreation

It's Our Turn to expand the horizon of options to Get You Active, develop new or enhance skills, play with peers and make friends - all to Get You in the Game!

Turnstone's Sports and Recreation team is made up of four individuals: Michelle Kimpel- Director of Wellness and Adaptive Sports, Jaime Garzon- Sports Competition/ Events Coordinator, Kevin Hughes- Sports and Recreation Coordinator, and Molly Cinker- Competitive Sports Coordinator.

Together, our team provides adaptive Sports and Recreational opportunities for youth, adults, and veterans with all disabilities in Fort Wayne, across the nation and around the world.  Opportunities exist recreationally and competitively to encompass anyone including someone just learning at the grassroots level all the way to the elite athlete with Paralympic or Special Olympic dreams.  We coordinate and offer team practices, programs, clinics and tournaments at Turnstone for the clients we serve. Additionally, competitive teams travel around the country playing peer teams.  Through these events and programs, we have seen an increase in friendships, socialization, physical fitness, independence, and life skills which translate into their daily skills needed for transitioning from youth to adulthood, education, work force, and other aspirations they have.  Adaptive sports and recreation also include the community offering disability awareness, volunteer, inclusion, and spectator opportunities.

With  your generosity and support, adaptive sports and recreation can continue to impact the lives of our clients, help them participate in something they enjoy, enhance skills that they can apply throughout their entire life, provide maintenance or new equipment, assist with travel expenses, increase the level of physical activity, and most of all laugh and have FUN.
