The Dane Austin Kasschau Fund

We have decided to make a difference in the fight against Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis in memory of Dane Austin Kasschau. Dane, who battled Crohn's and colitis for most of his adult life, passed away on January 25, 2022, at age 39, following a courageous nine month battle with stage 4 colorectal cancer.

Dane's was a life so well lived, cut entirely too short. His wide, easy smile, vivid personality, authenticity, and contagious charisma make him unforgettable. Dane was a person to whom deep, enduring friendships were a priority and came easily. He possessed a unique ability to make everyone feel their best and even the most mundane tasks fun. He genuinely saw the beauty in life, and had an innate ability to share that joy with those around him.

In his short time on Earth, Dane created a legacy of kindness, generosity, and light that will carry all those who grieve him now through the years to come. He was a devoted husband, father, son, brother, uncle, friend, athlete, competitor, poet, and artist. He will be dearly missed by everyone blessed to know him.

The contributions raised here are in furtherance of Dane's legacy of helping others. Please consider supporting us in this effort.

About Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis

Known collectively as inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD), Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis affects millions of people. They are painful, medically incurable diseases that attack the digestive system. Crohn's disease may attack anywhere along the digestive tract, while ulcerative colitis inflames only the large intestine (colon). Symptoms may include abdominal pain, persistent diarrhea, rectal bleeding, fever, and weight loss. Many patients require numerous hospitalizations and surgery. Most people develop the diseases between the ages of 15 and 35; however the incidence is increasing in children.

The Crohn's & Colitis Foundation is the largest non-profit, voluntary, health organization dedicated to finding cures for inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD). The Foundation’s mission is to cure Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis, and to improve the quality of life of children and adults who are affected by these diseases. The Foundation works to fulfill its mission by funding research; providing educational resources for patients and their families, medical professionals, and the public; and furnishing supportive services for those afflicted with IBD.
