EVENT HISTORY & PURPOSE
The OK Classic is one very full day of fun and competitive co-ed, 14-inch softball. This tournament was our original fundraiser and still serves as one of our most important days of the year to gather community in connection to the mission. The softball offers an opportunity for the Warriors to stand on the same playing field as their peers, in a fully inclusive space. We cherish these interactions and the team and player connections truly reflect what our mission is all about.
This event also offers a full-on, family-friendly festival atmosphere in addition to the games. We feature a wide variety of donated food and beverage from some of our finest local partners. We also host a massive kid's activity area, a party tent with seating and college football reeling all day.
This event began in 2007 as a memorial to a very dear friend of the Warriors who passed away at a young age while serving as an Americorps volunteer in Alaska. The KG Classic, named after Kathleen Garrigan is often considered the launching pad of Opportunity Knocks. Several years later, the event was re-named the OK Classic, honing its focus on the OK mission. The KG spirit lives on at OK, while the Classic continues to be a key fundraising event in support of the programs at OK.
