When do the Games take place?
The games take place from June 20 to June 26 at the University of Minnesota, the official host venue. In addition to the university, the event will unfold across other premier locations, including the National Sports Center in Blaine.

How many sports will Team NorCal participate in at the Games?
There are officially 16 sports offered at the Games and Special Olympics NorCal (SO NorCal) is proud to be bringing teams competing in 9 sports.

How much do the athletes pay to attend the Games?
Our athletes are not charged to attend these games.   We rely on the generosity of individuals and companies to fund the cost of bringing athletes to the games. 

How do the athletes/teams get selected for the Games?
Athletes train for 6 - 8 weeks and then compete at a regional competition.  The teams are selected from a random drawing among the first-place teams at regional events.  Other criteria is also considered to ensure the competition is a positive experience for the athletes.

How are the coaches selected for the Games?  
Our SO NorCal coaches are invited to apply for the coaching position of their choice.​  The selections are based on the applications submitted and a panel interview.

Can family members attend the games with their athlete?
Families cannot attend the games as part of the official Team NorCal delegation.  They are welcome to attend the games and support their athlete and cheer them on, but athletes will stay with the delegation and be housed with the team.
