Walk for Autism presented by Del-One Foundation supporting Autism Delaware
Walk for Autism presented by Del-One Foundation

Why Participate?

2022 marks the 16th year for the Walk for Autism. This is the largest event for families affected by autism in Delaware. In 2006 the incidence of autism was 1 in 110 and now it's 1 in 44! That's an increase of more than 100% in just 16 years. The autism community needs support now more than ever.

Autism Delaware is committed to supporting those affected by autism for their lifetime. To do this we need your participation. Join a team, start a team, or give. Your participation makes a difference in the lives of local families.

How Your Support Makes a Difference

Funds raised through the Walk for Autism help Autism Delaware provide vital programs and services. Our two largest programs are Family Support program and our adult services program.

We provide support for families with new autism diagnoses and families who need ongoing support through two programs, our Autism Care Team (ACT) program and our Family Navigation program. In both programs, our dedicated Family Navigators and Family Support Providers help families assess needs and design plans for children diagnosed with autism, focusing on how to put strategies and recommendations into action.

Our adult services are community-based and dedicated to helping adults with ASD find employment, volunteer opportunities, and other quality of life pursuits, and then supporting them in those activities to ensure their success. The program is a collaborative process that includes the individual served, families, our staff, and all other support staff members, to develop and implement a plan that addresses the individual’s support needs and meet individual goals.

Points? I Want to Earn Some Points!

This year we have added this new component to recognize the hard work and efforts our fundraisers put into this event. You can earn points by:

  • Recruiting teammates
  • Receiving fundraising donations
  • Making a donation yourself
  • Posting on social media about your fundraising efforts and the event using #WalkforAutismDE
  • Hosting your own outside fundraiser for the event!

Note: Social Media points will only be added to your total for Instagram & Twitter posts. Your Instagram must be linked to your walk page account and the post must be original and not a share from another IG user's account. Although we encourage you to share on Facebook, their algorithm does not allow for us to track the hashtags.

The walk participant with the most points accumulated in the Overall Leader section in the months of May, June, July, August and September will be highlighted at the walk. (Different winner every month.) We will create your very own large walk route sign that will be displayed along the walk route for all to see!

Thank You to Our Generous Sponsors

The Walk for Autism is Autism Delaware's largest event and community gathering. Funds raised through this event support individuals and families affected by autism throughout the state.

Over the last 16 years, the Walk has been a way for people and families to come together and show their support, acceptance and inclusion. This year we will be hosting the Walk at two new venues and we hope to see your there!

What’s Happening on Walk Day?

We listened to your feedback from last year's event and will continue to have two walk start times. You can choose your preferred start time during your registration (9:30 am or 11:00 am).

1. Autism Delaware program staff will be on hand to meet you and connect you with the services we provide.

2. An Autism Services Section will feature representatives from state agencies like DDDS, SSI, DVR and more with information on programs that children & adults with autism may qualify for.

3. Food Trucks offering coffee, breakfast items and lunch will be there. Many are cash only so bring some $.

4. Sponsors offering goods, information or services of interest to our community.

5. Inflatable games for all to enjoy.

Please note that dogs are not permitted at either walk location - so leave your furry friends at home on walk day.

Please be aware that Delaware City is also hosting Delaware City Day on the same day as the Walk for Autism.

What does this mean?

There will be some traffic congestion when entering Delaware City. All you need to do is follow the signs for Autism Delaware event parking and you will enter directly into Fort DuPont. Traffic will flow in one entry way from Route 9 and exit another. There will be parking lot attendants guiding you to the perfect onsite parking space.
