Woof Walk 2019

Frequently Asked Questions

1. When and where is the Humane Society Woof Walk 2019?

Humane Society Woof Walk 2019 will be held Saturday, October 26th, on the campus of the Humane Society of Memphis & Shelby County and beautiful Shelby Farms Park in Memphis, TN.  Check-in begins at 8 am, the 4-mile walk will begin at 9:00 am, and the 2-mile walk will begin at 9:15 am. Afterward, join us for a fun morning that will include a costume contest, pet tricks for treats, food trucks, music, a kid zone, and more for you, your furry friends, and your family!

2. Is there a registration fee?

There is no registration fee for the Woof Walk 2019.  However, this is one of our largest fundraising event of the year.  We encourage all participants to sign-up as an individual or team and fundraise with us.  Walkers that raise $18 will receive a commemorative Humane Society Woof Walk t-shirt.  Those that raise $50 or more will be eligible for additional prizes as they advance to higher fundraising levels.  Example prizes include, but are not limited to, a bandana for your pup, a long-sleeve Humane Hero t-shirt, and VIP event benefits.

3. How long is the Walk?

The Humane Society Woof Walk’s longest route is approximately 3.85 miles.  It begins and ends on the Chickasaw Trail in beautiful Shelby Farms Park, just across the street from the Humane Society campus on Farm Road.  A shorter, 2-mile option is also available for those who want to return more quickly to relax and enjoy the entertainment.

4. Where can I find a schedule of events?

Event information is located on our About Woof Walk 2019 page and will be updated as needed.  If you can't find what you're looking for, feel free to email khill@memphishumane.org.  We're here to help.

5. Is there a minimum fundraising goal I must meet to participate?

Although we encourage our walkers to fundraise, there is no minimum requirement to participate. Walkers that raise $18 or more will receive a commemorative Humane Society Woof Walk 2019 t-shirt and additional prizes will be awarded to fundraisers that meet higher thresholds.

We encourage walkers and teams to set their goals high, and when that goal is met, go above and beyond for the animals.  Most people don't realize that fundraising and collecting donations for the animals is a fun experience, especially when you participate as team.  Each dollar raised helps us be ready at a moment's notice when abused or severely neglected animals need our help. The more we raise, the more lives we can save.

6. What are the benefits of forming or joining a team?

Forming a team is a great way to have fun with family, friends, and co-workers while raising funds for a cause close to all of our hearts— the animals!  It is also a great team-building exercise for any business interested in becoming more philanthropic.

7. Who do I contact if a donation does not appear on my fundraising page?

Email khill@memphishumane.org with the name of the person who made the donation, the amount (if known) and the person and/or team it should be credited to.  We can look it up in our database to make sure it is properly credited to you.  Be sure to include a contact phone number.

8. How can I help fundraise for this event?

The possibilities are endless! The best way to start is to create your personal fundraising page on the Humane Society Woof Walk 2019 website.  Your page makes it easy to take advantage of communications options such as email, Facebook, and Twitter.  You can send a message to your selected contacts and they can make a donation directly to your page.  You can raise funds by asking for donations from friends, co-workers, neighbors, and family.

It is also fun to plan events like bake sales and car washes, or you can team up with a local restaurant where a portion of their sales for one evening is donated to your team.  Always ask donors to check with their place of employment to see if they offer a matching donation program.  By filling out a few forms and submitting them to the business, it is possible that they can double their donation!

9. Can I bring my pets?

Dogs that are friendly with other dogs and people of all ages are welcome to attend.  Hundreds of dogs will be in attendance, so we do not recommend bringing those that are uncomfortable with crowds, noise, or other dogs.  We highly discourage bringing other types of pets (cats, snakes, birds, etc.) as this type of event can be stressful for them.  There are many ways to walk while still honoring your pet at home.  You can create t-shirts or posters or bring their photo with you.

If your dog is the social type and ready to join in the fun, they must be on a leash no longer than six feet.  We ask that you do not use retractable leashes as they have been known to cause accidents.  For your dog’s protection, please make sure he/she is up to date on all vaccinations.  If your dog is in heat, please allow them to stay at home.

10. Can my children participate?

Absolutely!  The Humane Society Woof Walk 2019 is a family-friendly event.  Children are always welcome!  We even have a Kids Zone where they can participate in activities and craft projects, making it a great experience for the whole family.

Leading up to the Walk, kids can be very active in fundraising, asking friends, neighbors, and family members to help them raise money.  Kids enjoy giving back to the animals!

11. I cannot attend the Walk.  How can I still raise funds for the animals?

Although we'd love to see everyone on Walk Day, attendance is not a requirement.  Animal-lovers that cannot make it on October 26th, but want to help injured and abused animals in our community, can register as a Virtual Walker.  You will still have access to the website tools to raise funds and you can still create fun planning events, knowing you are helping our Humane Society animals.

12. How can I get a Humane Society Woof Walk 2019 poster to hang up at my office?

You can pick up posters at the Humane Society of Memphis & Shelby County after September 15, 2019.  Our animals, staff, and volunteers thank you for helping us to promote the event!

13. What do I do with the cash and checks that I collect?

For checks, you can mail them to us, bring them with you on Walk Day, or drop them by the Humane Society at the address below.  Our regular business hours can be found on our website https://memphishumane.org/.  Make sure to include your name, team name (if applicable), and contact information.

We do no recommend mailing cash.  Cash monies can turned in on Walk Day or delivered to the Humane Society at the address below during regular business hours.  Make sure to include your name, team name (if applicable), contact information, and dollar amount.
