What happens the day of the Walk?

We are glad you asked! 

Event Day Schedule

·         11:00 a.m. 5k with your K9

·         10:45 a.m. - 2 p.m. Shuttle buses run

·         11 a.m. BBQ and Beer Garden Open

·         12:15 p.m. Walk for the Animals takes off by the main gate

·         1:00 p.m. Adoption Parade

·         1:45 p.m. Awards and recognition

·         1 p.m. Beer Garden Band "Pluckin' Nutz" Begins

·         3 p.m. Beer Garden Closes

The 5K

·         Begins at 11:00 a.m./ please pick up your numbers at the 5K tent near the starting line.

·         This will be a timed event run by Peak Performance.

·         All runners need to be in place by 10:45 for final instructions.

·         The 5K will start at the event entrance and pick up the Keystone trail—then loop back.

·         Dogs are welcome to accompany humans.

·         Once you complete the course—come on over to the meadow and enjoy the beer garden (I.D. required), barbecue, and event festivities.

The Walk

·         Kicks off at 12:15 from the NHS Meadow at the Balloon Arch

·         Listen for the announcement from the Mainstage.

·         The route is just a mile along the Keystone trail!  

·         For a shorter walk try the Dachshund Dash which begins at the north end of the meadow just outside the fence—about a quarter mile of walking.

·         Once you’re back- follow the crowd and follow the signs to enjoy festivities on the meadow.

Is there a registration fee?​

There is no cost for adults to participate in the Walk for the Animals.  Incentives will be earned for funds raised by each participant (not team totals).  The more money you raise, the better the incentive and the more lives you will save.

There is a registration fee of $25 for children, ages 13 and under.  Children registered before September 1, 2021 will receive a Walk for the Animals t-shirt the day of the event. Those children registering after September 1, 2021 will receive their Walk t shirt after the event.  (Most email providers and social media platforms require children to be at least 13 years old to register. )

As a local nonprofit, we rely on your support. We hope that you’ll collect donations from friends and family for the animals.

What is the difference between Teams and Groups?

 A Team, or Dog Pack/Cat Colony, is a group of people working together throughout the Walk for the Animals. You can sign up as a Team Captain, recruit members and you all work toward your team goal of saving the lives of as many animals as you can. A Group is something you can join, in addition to your team. For example, you are Team Captain of the Midnight Barkers, but you also want to see if dogs are better than cats, so you join the Dog People group! All the funds you raise will be credited to your personal and team pages, but they will also show in a tally for the Dog People. Thus, we can finally answer the age-old question, what’s better, dogs or cats? 

 You can also form multiple company teams, allowing departments to compete against each other and request a ‘Company Name Group’ be made so you can track the company’s collective impact. If you need a company group made, contact Gordon at gkrentz@nehumanesociety.org.

What do I do if someone wants to donate cash or check? 

You can track those donations online in your profile. Make sure the checks are made out to: Nebraska Humane Society and mail to:

Or, you can bring the cash and checks to the Nebraska Humane Society at 8929 Fort Street, Omaha, NE 68134. Please make sure you have all the donations in an envelope with your name and contact information.

How do I enter a check or cash I have collected for the Walk?

​Go to your Walk Participant Center. You can do this by going to upper right-hand corner of this page and click on "Manage My Page"

  • Once there click on "Raise at Least *Goal* in the menu on the left side.
  • Next, click on "enter cash/checks".
  • Click on “Enter a Cash or Check Donation”
  • Then select the method of payment
  • Click “Save”
  • This amount will populate into your fundraising total.
  • Then you can mail or bring the checks in person to the Nebraska Humane Society at 8929 Fort Street, Omaha, NE 68134.
  • The photo I am trying to upload is rotating sideways.  What can I do?

    The photo is too large.​ To make the photo smaller, first open it in Paint . You then click the button "resize" to scale your photo down.  Try 75% of the original horizontal and vertical size.  Save a new version of your photo and try to upload it again!  If 75% doesn't work, you can try and make is smaller again (it all depends on the original size of your photo).

    How do I get my incentive prizes for fundraising ?

    ​If you have raised  at least $50 by September 1, 2021, your t-shirt will be ready for you the day of the Walk at the Incentive Tent in the event meadow. 

    Those participants raising $75 or more after September 1, 2021 will receive their t-shirt at the shelter at a later date (approximately the end of October). 

    Prize levels up to $500 will be available for pick up the day of the Walk in the Incentive Tent. 

    Prize levels $1,000, $2,500 and $5,000 will be available for pick up at the shelter at a later date (approximately the end of October). 

    *5K participants will not receive an event T-shirt.  Instead, they will earn an official medal upon completion of the Run.

    5K with your K9?

     (must register by Thursday, September 23rd)

    Are you and experienced runner? Is your dog a 5K ready dog? Then this is the registration for you! Finish the 5K the morning of the Walk at 11:00 am and you will receive a Walk for the Animals 5K medal. And a little something for your dog as well! 

    Registration: $50

    We will start the run at 11:00 am!

    We will be handing out three awards:

    Fastest Dog

    Fastest Female Human

    Fastest Male Human​

    How do I gain admission the day of the Walk?

    Walk participants who have earned a Walk T Shirt! 

    This is easy! Your name will be a list to get you into the event meadow! Once inside make your way to the incentive tent located in the middle of meadow. Your Walk T Shirt will be waiting for you! 

    $10 admission fee the day of the Walk
    There is an admission fee of $10 for those who are coming to enjoy the day and have not raised any money.  Children under 13 will not pay admission.

    Where do I park the day of the Walk?

    Complimentary parking with Shuttle Bus service will be available from 10:45 am to 2:00 pm in the Affordable Family Storage parking lot located at 5646 N 90th Street. (This is about a block and a half from the Shelter.) Dogs are permitted on the bus. There is limited parking in the Nebraska Humane Society main lot. Or you can Valet your car. This area is located on Fort St. directly across the street from the Shelter. The cost is only $20.
