Fundraising Tips

Whether this is your first time fundraising or if you're a seasoned pro, below are a few tips to help get the ball rolling on your fundraising goal.

  • The first rule of fundraising is if you don’t ask, you don’t give people a chance to say yes! It can be daunting to ask for financial support for a cause, but remember that there are many generous people who want to give and support our community. They just need to be asked so they can say YES!
  • Make a donation. When friends and family see that you are already on your way to achieving your fundraising goal, they may be more encouraged to contribute!
  • Make a list. Not sure who to ask for support? Sit down and think about friends, family, and other community groups that you have a connection with. Who do you know that may share a passion for the Towpath Trail as a natural, recreational, and historical resource?
  • Get personal. Let your friends and family know that this cause is close to your heart. Recall your previous experiences on the Towpath Trail. What do you love about it? Where are your favorite places to visit? Think about why you are fundraising for the Towpath Trail and share that story!
  • Set deadlines. Share a fundraising deadline goal with your friends and family to prompt them to donate in a timely manner.
  • Share on social media. Below are a few suggestions of ways you can share your fundraising page on various social media platforms.

Facebook:

Tip: Create a Facebook fundraiser. Setting up a fundraiser right on the platform allows your friends and family to donate quickly and easily.

Instagram:

Tip: Put your OneCause fundraising link in your Instagram bio. To do this, go to your Instagram profile, tap edit profile, paste your OneCause link in the Website box, and save changes.

Tip: Post photos and videos of your training rides on your Story. Friends and family may be more inspired to contribute to your fundraising if they see you actively utilizing the Towpath Trail and working toward that 101 mile ride!

LinkedIn:

Tip: Share your fundraising page on LinkedIn. If you are active on LinkedIn and are connected with others in the community, make a post sharing why you are fundraising for the development and maintenance of the Ohio & Erie Canal Towpath Trail and link your fundraising page.

Workplace Gift Matching

Maximize your fundraising efforts! Some employers will match your donation to a nonprofit or charity. Ask your employer about gift matching to double your contributions and meet your fundraising goal faster!
