About VIPS

VIPS is the only agency in Indiana specifically dedicated to meeting the critical early intervention needs of infants and toddlers who are blind or have low vision and their families. Since 2011, VIPS has expanded from serving just eight children to over 1,300 kids receiving life-changing intervention services tailored to each child’s visual diagnosis. Our team of specialized educators ensures that children and their families receive the support they need to thrive. VIPS anticipates providing vision-specific early intervention services to 300+ Hoosier children this year alone.

The mission of VIPS is to empower families by providing educational excellence to young children with blindness or low vision in order to build a strong foundation for reaching their highest potential.

Holistic Family-Centered Services Empower Children & Caregivers

VIPS’ Blind/Low Vision Specialists will travel to all 92 counties in Indiana, offering comprehensive programming and individualized services.

In-home early intervention visits by VIPS Blind/Low Vision Specialists to provide personalized instruction in a comfortable environment.
Direct services and consultation in childcare settings to support educators and adapt teaching techniques.
Specialized diagnostic assessments to track development and adjust programming accordingly.
Orientation and mobility instruction by Certified Orientation & Mobility Specialists to teach safe navigation using pre-cane devices or white canes.
Preschool transition services to prepare children for their next educational setting.
Advocacy training to empower parents and caregivers to champion their child's needs.
Parent and caregiver education and support, including social gatherings, training opportunities, newsletters, and a Lending Library with adaptive learning tools.
Access to the VIPS Family Resource Center in Indianapolis provides an adapted learning space and expanded programming.

How would a donation to VIPS help?

$1,000 provides five children access to the Summer O&M Camp
$500 ensures a child has a successful transition to Kindergarten/Public School
$350 delivers two early intervention home visits to a child
$250 provides a child with one orientation and mobility session
$100 supports a training session for a teacher
$50 covers braille books, large print books, and other early literacy tools for a child
