Frequently Asked Questions
The Basics
Q: How do you actually play 100 holes in one day?
A: We use special rules to keep the pace moving: each player gets their own cart, no practice swings, drive straight to your ball, don't search for lost balls (just drop and go), and maximum two putts per green. Most players start at sunrise and finish by 5:30-6:00 PM.
Q: How long does it take?
A: About 8-9 hours total (equivalent to roughly 5.5 rounds of golf).
Q: What course do we play?
A: The Club at Castlewood, a private country club.
Logistics & Comfort
Q: What about meals and refreshments?
A: We provide breakfast burritos before you start, box lunches served 11:30-12:30 at the clubhouse (most eat on-the-go), plus snacks and drinks throughout the day. There's a big dinner celebration at the end.
Q: Can I choose my playing partner?
A: Yes. You'll play in twosomes (each person) with your own carts. We can also arrange relay teams where different pairs play 25-50 holes each, but we never have more than two players together on the course at once.
Q: What about weather?
A: We moved the tournament to October (formerly a June event) for ideal conditions. We've been fortunate with weather and never had rain during the event.
Scoring & Prizes
Q: How does scoring work?
A: Your score is based on your best score on each hole throughout the entire day. We award prizes for both gross scores and net scores (using handicaps) - first, second, and third place in each category.
Q: Are there other contests during the tournament?
A: Yes! We have longest drive competitions, hole-in-one prizes (triggers a $500 donation), and the special Steve Thompson memorial hole with concentric rings around the pin that trigger different donation levels ($5,000 for a hole-in-one).
Q: Who is Steve Thompson?
A: Steve was a friend who played in our first tournament and passed away four years later. We dedicated a par-3 hole to his memory with a banner, and it's grown into something special - ten members of his family now participate in the event and have become our biggest fundraisers throughout the year. They're even bringing their grandkids now. Steve was an avid golfer, and this tribute keeps his memory alive while supporting our cause.
Q: Can I sponsor a hole in memory of someone?
A: Absolutely. If you'd like to golf or sponsor a hole in memory of a loved one, we'd be honored to help you create a meaningful tribute as part of the tournament.
Common Concerns
Q: I don't think I'm physically capable of playing 100 holes.
A: If you can play 36 holes in a day, you can do this. With your own cart, regular refreshments, and fast pace, it's actually easier than you'd expect. Many players come planning to play 50-60 holes and discover they can complete the full 100.
Q: I can't raise $2,500.
A: You don't need to come up with the money upfront. We help you easily solicit donations per hole - just like sponsors for a running race. You'll be surprised how willing friends and family are to support you. We can even help write the solicitation copy.
