HOPE HOSPICE GOLF MARATHON RETURNS WITH HEART AND PURPOSE

Annual fundraiser supports grief counseling, dementia education, and critical hospice care for 1,400 families each year

DUBLIN, CA – September 9, 2025 -- On Monday, October 20, 2025, golfers will tee off at Castlewood Country Club’s Valley Course for the annual Hope 100 Golf Marathon—a tradition as much about heart as it is about golf.

Now in its 11th year, the Hope 100 challenges up to 36 golfers to play 100 holes in a single day—roughly five-and-a-half rounds. While it takes grit and stamina to complete the marathon, the real endurance belongs to the 1,400 families Hope Hospice serves each year, families navigating serious illness and loss with courage and resilience.

“Each year, I’m amazed by the heart this community brings to the Hope 100. It’s never just about the golf—it’s about standing with families when they need it most. As we celebrate year eleven, my hope is that more people than ever will join us—swing for swing, hole for hole—so that no family has to face illness or grief alone.” said Jim Berriatua, Hope 100 Golf Tournament Founder and Chairperson.

Every swing supports care that Medicare doesn’t cover, including:

  • Grief counseling for children and families
  • Specialized equipment to bring comfort and safety home
  • Extended care coordination so families aren’t left on their own
  • Dementia education and caregiver support

Whether players go the distance with 100 holes or join the Steve Thompson Skills Challenge—a popular half-day competition of 10 putting, chipping, and driving trials—they’ll be part of something bigger: ensuring no neighbor walks through illness or grief alone.

The Hope 100 was first held in 2015 in memory of Piper Wagner, a beloved Castlewood golf pro who died of lung cancer, and honors the late Steve Thompson, a Bay Area businessman remembered for his generous spirit and role in shaping this event’s legacy.

Sponsors make the difference.

Hope 100 is proudly supported by community partners who step up each year to make compassionate care possible. Thanks to the generosity of sponsors like Graham Hitch Mortuary Services and Payroll Vault every dollar raised by our golfers goes directly to programs that help families facing serious illness and loss. Sponsorship opportunities are still available, and those who sign on early will be recognized in event promotions and materials leading up to October 20.
