Sandia Resort & Casino presents the 2023 Run to Break the Silence, Sunday June 4, 2023, benefitting Presbyterian Ear Institute's School for Oral Deaf Education, where deaf and hard of hearing children, listen, learn and speak! We invite you to become a Silence Breaker by participating in a morning of fitness and fun!

 
Event Details:
The 2023 Run to Break the Silence will be held at Sandia Resort & Casino on Sunday, June 4, 2023 with 5K and 10K and Kids Fun Run. The run will start and finish at Sandia Resort and Casino and will cover an all-terrain cross-country course in the challenging foothills of the Sandia Mountains. See the trail map with the link in the "More info about Run to Break the Silence 2023" section to the right.  No pets are allowed. You may bring your infant/ toddler in a stroller to the event, but you may not participate in the 5K or 10K with a stroller. All run participants will receive a 2023 RTBS Sport-Tech T-shirt. On-Site registration will begin at 6:45am.

10K Trail Run: 7:30am

5K Trail Run: 8:00am

Kids Fun Run - (Ages 2-6) - 9:00am, (Ages 7-12) - 9:15am​

  • Registration - $20
  • Day of Registration - $20

Our Kids Fun Run will include kid-friendly and age appropriate obstacle course for children ages 2-12. All children participating will receive a 2023 Kids Fun Run T-shirt and a SWAG bag with kids goodies from our run sponsors.


Awards: 

Prizes will be awarded for age groups the 1st – 3rd place finishers (men’s and women’s) in each age category. Age categories are as follows:

10K: 19 and under, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74, 75-79, 80+

5K: 12 and under, 13-15, 16-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74, 75-79, 80+


Important Information for Runners:

- Stay on the course! This is a Trail Run on Sandia Pueblo land. Please be respectful of nature, the beautiful surroundings and of Sandia Pueblo, whose people have graciously let us host our run every year on their beautiful land!

- The course is marked with arrows as well as turn-around signs at the appropriate points.

- There are water stations at the 5K, 10K and and Start/ Finish of the Race.

- The 10K will have energy snacks at the turnaround point.

- There will be a medic stationed at the 10K turnaround.

- Please pay attention to the course volunteers and signs as they will help direct you in areas that may be confusing.


Packet Pickup:

Packet Pick-Up will be hosted at New Mexico Look on Saturday, June 3 from 10am - 2pm. New Mexico Look is located at:

At Packet Pick-Up, you will be receiving your Runner's Packet w/ Bib, timing chip, and your shirt. If you registered before the 5/22 deadline, you will be guaranteed a shirt in the size you requested. If you are registering at Packet Pick-Up or on race day, you will have a choice of the sizes we have remaining.

At PEI, we give deaf and hard of hearing children the opportunity to learn to listen and speak and upon graduation, compete successfully with their hearing peers in mainstream schools and later in life. But, we can't do it alone!
We invite you to become a Silence Breaker by joining us for a morning of fitness and fun. Your participation will help raise funds to support PEI's School for Oral Deaf Education and ultimately change lives!

For 35 years, PEI has been committed to providing access to the opportunity for d/hh children in New Mexico to hear and speak. But, this specialized education comes with a hefty price-tag of $30,000 per child/ per year.  
As a non-profit organization, we host fundraising events like the Run to Break the Silence to support the operation of our programs and ultimately change the life outcomes of the children and families we serve. 
Your support makes it possible to retain the highest qualified staff, maintain the low student to teacher ratios (3/1) that our students need to be successful in learning to listen and talk, and offer tuition assistance to families. Because you decided to run, children attending PEI have the ability to grow up to do and be anything they want to be because they can hear and communicate with the world around them. Thank you!
