Due to the extreme heat and smoke from nearby wildfires, the Canadian Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation fully supports Helene’s friends in cancelling tomorrow’s walk (Saturday, September 6, 2025). Your health and safety always come first; especially for those living with pulmonary fibrosis and their caregivers.
We will “walk in our hearts” as we remember Helene John together.
If you would still like to support the cause, donations can be made here at any time. Your generosity will directly help people living with PF. Thank you for your understanding and for putting community well-being above all else.
We will be walking rain or shine so be sure to dress for the weather.
The FAB-5 would like to celebrate and pay tribute to Helene, who lived courageously with pulmonary fibrosis. Join us for the second annual walk as we raise awareness and funds to support people living with pulmonary fibrosis, those who have passed away, plus family, friends, and healthcare professionals who support them all.
We will be meeting in the parking lot of Kinsmen Softball Complex and walking approximately 1.5 kms. After our walk we will raise a toast to Helene at Michaelbrook Golf Course.
It was Helene who, on the last Wednesday of the month, suggested we gather for dinner and drinks—a tradition that has now spanned 27 years. Even though we are all now retired, our commitment to this monthly gathering has never wavered. We continue to meet for lunch on the last Wednesday of each month, cherishing the camaraderie and memories we have built over the years. Our group, affectionately known as the FAB-5, has seen changes in its members, but our name and spirit remain the same.
Helene was the heart of our gatherings, never missing a meeting until she became too ill to attend. Helene was an avid golfer and the restaurant at Michaelbrook became our go-to lunch spot. Her presence, laughter, and unwavering friendship have left an indelible mark on all of us. We honour her today and always, grateful for the joy and happiness she brought to our lives. Her daily walks were a testament to her zest for life.
