5K Run Participants: Bronx River Start
8:00am, 8:30am,9:00am, 9:30am, 10:00am Start Times

As a 5K participant, you are only permitted to enter the zoo via the Bronx River Parking lot (please use the intersection of Bronx River Parkway and Boston Road, Bronx, NY 10460 as your GPS destination) where you will be closest to the Start Line. Please note that the Asia entrance to the Zoo (by West Farms train stop) will be closed. If you’re taking the 2 train to Pelham Parkway from Manhattan - Walking: head west on Pelham Parkway towards Boston Road, turn left onto Boston Road, turn right to stay on Boston Road, walk underneath the overpass bridge towards the Bronx River entrance.

Your race bib indicates the time you registered to participate and the start location. If you have not received your bib, please reach out to Jenni Cheers at jcheers@wcs.org. You will not be permitted to enter the park without your bib.

Gates for parking and pedestrian entrances will open at 7am. You must not arrive more than an hour before your respective time slot. You will remain in your vehicles (or dedicated area for mass transit users) until Bronx Zoo staff alerts you to head to the queueing area.

You will be permitted to start queuing up 30 minutes prior to your time slot. In that area you will be required to go through bag inspection and will not be able to leave the area once bag inspection is complete. We encourage you to leave your belongings in your vehicles. There is no baggage claim area. You will be permitted to access your vehicles once you have finished the race. Please wear or keep your race bib visible for re-entry into the park.

Face masks are required at all times for RFTW participants over the age of 2 regardless of vaccination status or medical conditions. Pending CDC and NY State Guidelines by April 24th, temperature checks may be in place. We ask that you follow guidance from staff, use the ground markers and always maintain a safe distance from other participants.


3K Run/Walk Participants: Southern Blvd Start
10:30am,11:00am, 11:30am, 12:00pm, 12:30pm Start Times

As a 3K participant, you are only permitted to enter the zoo via the Southern Boulevard Parking lot (2300 Southern Boulevard on GPS) where you will be closest to the Start Line. Please note that the Asia entrance (closest to the West Farms train stop) will be closed. If you are taking 2 or 5 subway from Manhattan to West Farms Sq - East Tremont Ave - Walking: Head North on Boston Road for a quarter of a mile, turn left onto Bronx Park South for half of a mile, turn right onto Crotona Parkway, and enter the Southern Boulevard entrance on the right. Or by Bus: walk North on Boston Road towards E 180th Street, turn left onto E 180th Street, take the Bx9 bus three stops to Southern Blvd/Bronx Park S., walk North on Southern Blvd. and enter on the right.

Bag Search

Your safety while participating in the WCS Run for the Wild is our greatest concern. We are asking for your cooperation with security procedures and advising that all participants be subject to NYPD bag searches at all points of entry to the Bronx Zoo. In order to expedite the process, we strongly advise that you limit what you bring into the park and if possible, leave items in your vehicle. Your cooperation is greatly appreciated.

Event Info

Race Bibs
Please make sure your race bib is visible at all times. Your race bib allows you access to the Run event at the specific run start time you registered plus, new this year – access to all rides and attractions. If you did not receive your bib in the mail, please get in touch Jenni Cheers at jcheers@wcs.org.

Due to strict capacity limitations per course selection and heats, you will not be permitted to switch courses or times. The bib you receive corresponds to the time you requested. You will not be permitted to run or walk in any other time other than what you selected at registration.


Wave Starts

Each start time has a limited number of participants. Once in the queuing area, Bronx Zoo Staff will be guiding participants to their respective heat at the starting area using ground markers for social distancing purposes. For every heat, there will be a 20 second delay in launching each row of runners/walkers.

Because this event is not a competitive or official timed race, runners’ race net times will NOT be recorded from when they cross the start and finish line. Please clock yourself and take note of the time you cross both the start and finish line for an accurate 5K and 3K times.

We ask that you adhere to all the course marshal’s instructions and posted signs and remain only on the running lane. Your safety is our greatest concern.

Strollers

Strollers are ONLY permitted in the 3K Family Fun Run/Walk start times. Those with jogging strollers are asked to stand towards the end of the starting line.


Photos

Please be advised that the WCS Run for the Wild event will be photographed, filmed, videotaped or otherwise recorded for future use. WCS and its sponsors have the non-exclusive right to record your likeness participating in the Run for the Wild event and to use your likeness in all media worldwide in perpetuity, without remuneration, for WCS’s, its sponsors, for institutional, educational, and promotional purposes.


Spectators

There are no spectators permitted in this year’s Run. If you are waiting for friends or family to cross the finish line after you have completed it, we advise you to meet up on Astor Court. No one will be permitted to linger at the Finish Line location.


On-site Pledge Collection

If you have cash or check donations that you've collected, they can be handed in at the Prize Pick Up location in the Schiff Family Great Hall, located behind the Madagascar! exhibit from 8:30am- 2:30pm. Donations received on Run day will count toward your fundraising prizes.


Fundraising Prizes

If you have opted to receive and qualified for prizes based on your personal fundraising success, you will need to either show your prize notification on your phone or print your prize notification email or your Personal Page status and bring it with you on the day of the Run to claim your prize(s). Prizes will be available during post-Run activities in the Zoo. You can pick up your prizes at the Schiff Family Great Hall, located behind the Madagascar! exhibit until 2:30pm. For your safety, access to the Prize Pick Up area is based on limited capacity. We ask for your patience as we abide by NYC Covid guidelines for indoor locations.

If you opted out of prizes at registration, you will not be receiving notifications of prize levels. Thank you for your support!

If you have donations from a Facebook fundraiser that are not reflected in your Run for the Wild total, show proof of donations using your phone or bring a printout of the donations and present it at the Fundraising Pick Up location.

*Remember, fundraising prizes are awarded to individuals, not teams.


Spend The Day With Us!

Your registration includes access to all rides and attractions for the day (*except zoo shuttles which will not be running). Be the first this year to visit the Wild Asia Monorail (starting at 10:30am). Animal exhibits open at 10am. When you are finished with your run, please be mindful of the participants who are currently walking/running in their heats. Please follow Bronx Zoo Staff’s directions for crossing areas that overlap with the run course. Your cooperation is greatly appreciated.
