Each year, the WCS Run for the Wild raises awareness of the threats facing wildlife while fundraising to help WCS's conservation work at the Bronx Zoo and around the world.
Since its inception in 2009, more than 50,000 people have participated in the Run for the Wild at the Bronx Zoo.
The 5k race for individual runners will begin at 8:00 a.m.; casual runners and walkers can take part in the Family Fun Run/Walk at 8:45 a.m.
More than 5,000 runners and walkers are expected to participate in this year's event. All are welcome to stay after the race to take part in post-run activities and visit the Bronx Zoo.
This year’s Run for the Wild honors rhinos. Hunted illegally for their horns, rhinos face major threats due to poaching in both Africa and Asia; an average of 2.75 rhinos are shot daily. By participating in the run or supporting a participant, you can help protect rhinos and other endangered wildlife.
Runners, walkers, and wildlife supporters are invited to participate and/or support a participant. Early bird registration discount is available through January 31.
All adults and senior registrants must also raise at least $35 before the run in order to participate. The fundraising requirement is waived for children. All participants are also eligible for a host of prizes based on your personal fundraising success. Sign up and get a jump start on your fundraising now.
As the world's largest urban zoo, the Bronx Zoo features more than 600 species from around the globe. Meet some of our mammals, birds, reptiles, fish and insects. All-day admission is included!
"The Run for the Wild 5K at the Bronx Zoo has become an annual race for my husband and I. It is so fun to be in the zoo before the park is open and run past the animals. Then you get to stay for the rest of the day and enjoy the zoo!"Celeste S.
