I have a dot mandala obsession!!! I love the mesmerizing patterns that are formed just simple dots.I wanted to test myself to see exactly how small I could achieve some patterns I had seen onto cupcakes.

My cupcakes are centered around my kids favorite movie characters out of Harry Potter. I tried to be more whimsical and had a play with the characters and their personalities.

The Meaning Behind my Cupcakes
Basque Country as a very old culture and a tongue of unknown origins, dating back, at least, to Stone Age and therefore much much older than any Latin or Germanic language. It also has a very intricate folklore and mythology.
Basque Country has a deeply-rooted witchcraft tradition. Sorginak - local witches - still exist and rites and beliefs are still very much alive. The summer solstice is even still celebrated every June 21st in the village of Zugarramurdi, were a folkloric festival features sorginak performing an akelarre – Sabbath - in a huge natural cave ending with the appearance of Akerbeltz, the goat Satan.
Nowadays, Zugarramurdi draws visitors thanks to its picturesque witches. But the village has a much, much, much darker history. In the XVIth century, a young girl from the village accused a woman to kidnap her in her sleep and take her flying to a place where an akelarre was performed by three other women she also recognised and accused. It was the beginning of a merciless witch hunt performed by the inquisition in all the Bask Country.
My cupcakes tell this story… although I gave it a funny twist as my guess is that the sorginak were only playing mus – a traditional bet and bluff card game – with their old friend Akerbeltz. I was inspired by Goya’s spooky paintings and the clothing of our traditional witches.

The reef and sea floor are both cookies. Fondant fish and creatures. Reef covered in royal icing and I used the new zeoto pen to carve out the holes and texture in the reef and standing reef pieces. Coral airbrushed and made out of royal. Sand is a mixture of graham and vanilla wafer cookies. Hand painted creatures using gel colors. No molds were used.

The original theme was Around the World in 80 Cakes, so I naturally thought about hot air balloons. My creation is a cookie puzzle based on a coloring picture in my virtual coloring book.

These are my tribal friends that I’ve wanted to create for some time. I’m a huge animal lover so this was definitely fun to create. Everything is made from fondant. The fire is gelatin and the moss is graham crackers. Water is isomalt with fondant rock. Everything is dusted with roxy and rich petal dusts. Cupcakes are dark chocolate with whipped vanilla icing.
