Orianna Smith is Running a Marathon (+More) to Raise Funds for PF in Honour of Her Moms
Meet Orianna & Her Moms
Orianna's family has been hit doubly hard by pulmonary fibrosis (PF). Both of her mothers have this fatal disease. Orianna's moms live in Ladysmith, British Columbia and have been severely impacted by PF.
Holly Smith has idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) and was diagnosed 2015. As a result of her IPF, Holly has had to stop work, and limit her day-to-day activity which cuts down her social time making her feel increasingly more isolated.
Because of this illness Holly is unable to spend very much time with Orianna in Vancouver. She's able to see her maybe two or three times a year. When Holly does see her, she cannot be a part of the life Orianna has created (she's a yacht captain and just bought her third boat ) because of how debilitating and afraid this disease makes her feel. Orianna and Holly stay connected through emails, calls and texts. Holly has become a wiz at Instagram so she follows and connects with Orianna there.
Heather (Duffy) Fish
Duffy has suffered from Charcot Marie Tooth disease (CMT) for years now, which is a hereditary muscular neural disease that results in progressive axonal deterioration within all peripheral nerves, and so when she received news in 2021 that she too had PF it was very disheartening. Duffy is so strong, smart, and resourceful. She is such a mover and shaker in spite of her CMT disease but now with PF it makes her winded and unable to catch her breath. Duffy works around the property and now she has to take many rests during the day.
