What is the Bike to Beat Cancer?

The Bike to Beat Cancer is a one-day cycling event for all riders who want to make a difference and help those battling cancer at Norton Cancer Institute. There are five distance options from which to choose: 5, 15, 35, or 65 mile. There is also a 1 mile fun walk, 30-minute Spin Ride or a Virtual Ride option for those who are unavailable to ride on Sept. 13.

How much do you have to raise to participate?

See table below. Volunteers are not required to raise a minimum amount but are encouraged to fundraise.

What does the Bike to Beat Cancer benefit?

The Bike to Beat Cancer benefits the Norton Cancer Institute.  Riders can choose to designate the funds they raise to areas within the Norton Cancer Institute.

Where does rider registration & packet pick-up take place?

Rider registration will take place in the parking lot of Norton Cancer Institute Brownsboro, which is the Start/Finish Location for the Bike to Beat Cancer. Riders can turn in any last minute donations during packet pick-up.

How will rider packet pick-up take place?

Riders will receive a rider registration packet containing information including their personalized license plate, route cue sheet and items from sponsors.  Riders will then receive their Bike to Beat Cancer jersey or t-shirt based on their participation type. 

When will I receive my Bike to Beat Cancer jersey or T-shirt?

Individuals who reach the minimum fundraising requirements will receive a Bike to Beat Cancer t-shirt or jersey based on their rider type.  Items will be provided during packet pick-up. Click here for more details. 

What do I need to bring with me on my ride on the day of the Bike to Beat Cancer?

On event day, bring your bike, a form of identification to carry on you as you ride, any special snacks that you prefer and a water bottle.

What if the rider has not met their minimum fundraising goal to participate?

If a rider has not reached their minimum fundraising goal, they will need to visit the donation table. If the rider wishes to ride, we will take their credit card information and hold until October 13.  The rider will then have until October 13 to raise the amount needed to reach their goal before their credit card is charged. The rider will also have the option to switch participant types or to a role as a volunteer. 

What if I registered to ride 15 or 35 miles and want to ride 65 mile (or vice versa)?

Riders are welcome to switch their distance preference on the day of the event (even on the route!).  All that is required is that the rider raise their minimum amount, and then they are free to ride whatever distance they choose.

Should I have someone follow me along the route to ensure my safety?

We will provide LMPD support, Safety Vehicles and Tech support from Scheller's Fitness & Cycling, therefore additional route support provided by a family or friend is not necessary.  In case of true emergency, riders are asked to call 9-1-1.  

Is the ride fully supported?

The Bike to Beat Cancer is a fully supported ride with a motor safety team and pit stops along the route.  There are 8 pit stops on the route for you to rest and refuel. Please visit The Route page for more info! 

Where is parking for the Bike to Beat Cancer?

Parking is available at Norton Cancer Institute Brownsboro, the basin lot between Medical Plaza III and Norton Children’s Medical Center, and Norton Medical Plaza II-Brownsboro (located directly across from Norton Children’s Medical Center).  Please look for parking signage. A parking map can be found on the website at BiketoBeatCancer.org.

What if I want to cheer on the riders?

We encourage people to cheer on the riders.  If you would like to cheer them on, please go to the Finish Line at Norton Cancer Institute Brownsboro.  We also encourage you to download the TraqCentral app to cheer on participants along their journey. Celebration of Courage

The Celebration of Courage will be held on Saturday, Sept. 13 from 10 a.m to 4 p.m.  The event is open to ALL cancer patients and survivors and members of their immediate household.  There will be a free meal provided.  The event will also offer free children’s activities.  Those interested in attending are kindly requested to RSVP in advance here

What food is available at the Bike to Beat Cancer?

Chick-fil-A is providing breakfast for riders and volunteers, and Morrison’s is providing the Finish Line Meal for riders and volunteers.  Giovanni’s Shelbyville is providing lunch for the 65 mile riders on the course.  Specialty food items are offered at every pit stop, including a variety of snacks and beverages. Snacks will also be available at the Finish Line for riders and volunteers.
